Joseph Kiernan holds a MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the University of Northampton (UK), and the Dublin Counselling and Therapy Centre, Ireland. He is a Certified Practicing member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). Prior to training as a psychotherapist, he spent seven years in academia as human rights researcher, before working in the non-governmental sector in Europe where he received specialised training in providing support to human rights advocates and victims of trauma.
Joseph has experience helping individuals facing life threatening illness, major life transitions, and those experiencing grief and loss, anxiety, depression, and developmental and shock trauma. Some of the other difficulties he works with are bereavement, panic, sexuality, sleep difficulties, abuse (emotional, sexual, physical), body issues, self-esteem, chronic pain, and life and spiritual crises. His healing work mainly draws on humanistic and integrative approaches with a relational focus.
Joseph has an ongoing interest in somatic psychology and its uses in providing support to those healing from developmental trauma. He has a particular interest in new and creative approaches that place an emphasis on attunement, attachment, and regulation in the healing of trauma, and the nurturing of resilience and joy.
To complement his healing work, Joseph enjoys creating music, reading, running, and spending time in nature.
Working days: Monday and Wednesday.
Please feel free to contact Joseph for an initial conversation or to book an appointment.
